32. Feelings - Update 18 Septr 2021.  Here is my advice, which a reader is free to consider and act on.  Having optimistic feelings you may sign a contract you'll regret; but under the influence of depressed feelings, you may turn down a chance at happiness. And the deciding factor may be the coffee that upped your feelings, or the alcohol that dis-inhibited them or the lack of sleep that un-alerted you. Sexual feelings are strongly affected by your state of sexual arousal and your immediate satisfaction. For a man, a quick masturbation may reverse a dangerous decision
Do not make important decision right after coffee or alcohol or an important sexually influenced decision just before or during strong arousal. Be coffee- and alcohol-free before all important decisions and (if you are a sexual person) masturbate to orgasm (especially men but privately, of course) just before making an important sexually influenced decision. If a decision is very important, rehearse it over several days without acting on it, and then count how many “Yes,” how many “No,” and let the majority determine decision. (But, always slowly, and in case of an even-vote tie or 1-vote margin majority, defer decision and get other.
There are bio-rhythms of feelings based on cycles of rising and falling hormones. Three —– a 90-minute, a 24-hr and a 28-day feelings-cycle —- have been shown. These cycles interact with individual feelings variation caused by other factors to produce a more elated or more depressed state during a particular part of an hour or a day or during a several-days of the month. Each of us may notice hour, day or season (the winter blahs) when we are more or less lazy, energetic, sexual, brilliant, stupid, forgetful, or caring/uncaring. This knowledge allows awareness that one's feelings are not always in accord with the reality of one's life events but may be an effect of body cycle or what one eats or drinks or of bad weather or of cloudy day or dark moonless night or of lack of sexual orgasm or of sleep deprivation. Having this awareness of the knowledge, one can avoid the bad affect on behavior that such factor-affected feelings may make as compared to when one acts unaware of the influences.
In general, one's best decision-making mode is not long after awakening from a good sleep with a light snack in one's stomach and bladder emptied and no stimulating or depressing or dulling drug in one's brain. If you are a man and the decision hinges on social-sexual matters, then, also, shortly after a sexual orgasm is the best period; if a woman, the post menstrual time before ovulation (Days 6 to 12) is best. Of course, one cannot always arrange all of these things to coincide but you should get the idea and do your best if you want your better/best decisions.
A person who knows the external and internal bases of his feelings will be less prone to act out irrationally, e.g., to suicide because he wakes up feeling depressed. He understands the causes of his feelings and can shrug off his feelings of the moment with “I'm under the weather.” But one who does not have insight into his feelings is more apt to jump out high-floor window when he wakes up feeling fate turned against him.
